MUZAKARAH11 | RegionalShari’ah Scholars Dialogue on ‘Post BNM Shariah Standards: Between Ideals and Reality’.
12 May 2017, Putrajaya– The International Sharīʻah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) will be organising its 11th Muzakarah Cendekiawan Syariah Nusantara (Regional Shari’ah Scholar Dialogue) themed, ‘Post BNM Shariah Standards: Between Ideals and Reality’. The Muzakarah will be held on 16-17 May 2017 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
The MUZAKARAH11is organised annually to provide a platform for Shari’ah scholars, academicians, market players, and regulators from the Southeast Asia region, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, and Thailand. More than 210 delegates are expected to attend this event.
Presenters and discussants will be discussing key aspects of Islamic finance, while scholars and participants will be encouraged to share their experiences, ideas, and innovations.
As an established and well-respected event among Islamic finance stakeholders, it is the only event that hosts the gathering of Southeast Asia region Shari’ah scholars and industry practitioners outside the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It is also instrumental in positioning Malaysia as a thought leader in Islamic finance through research and regulatory advancement.

Following the theme for MUZAKARAH11, the presentation will focus on the issue of combining sale contract with lending contract (al-bay’ wa al-salaf). This topic will be discussed from the current practical viewpoint in Islamic finance to formulate a clear resolution to why it is impermissible to combine the two contracts.
The second-day session is expected to host a robust dialogue between Shari’ah scholars, lawyers and industry practitioners on the musyarakah contract. The first session will see a sharing session between the panelists on the application of the musyarakah contract in Islamic finance products, while in the second session, the panelists will be giving their views on the issues and challenges in implementing the musyarakah contract in Islamic finance.
