The scholars hailed from the Malay Archipelago, comprising scholars from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and Thailand. This event was conducted under the patronage of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Bank Indonesia (BI). ISRA, was supported by the co-organizers from Dewan Shari’ah Nasional, Majlis Ulama’ Indonesia (MUI) and Tazkia.
There were 100 participants from Malaysia consisting of Shar’iah advisors, Shari’ah experts, industry players and academicians. There were 70 delegates from Indonesia, 6 from Brunei, 2 from Singapore and one (1) from Thailand. This annual event serves as a platform for Shari’ah scholars to share their thoughts and knowledge, as well as to discuss the latest developments in the Islamic finance industry.
The 3rd Muzakarah Cendekiawan Syariah Nusantara 2009 focused on the Islamic treasury instruments and operations, iwith an in-depth discussion of the related Shari’ah issues.
It is envisaged that the results and resolutions obtained through the dialogue would further catalyze treasury instruments and operations involving swaps-and forex issues with regard to spot delivery and qabd in the Islamic finance industry and subsequently, bring about a system that is more dynamic and better able to fulfill the needs of the whole value chain of customers, and most importantly, to be one of the critical success factors in realizing an Islamic financial system that is in line with the maqasid of the Shari’ah.
